I had it done within my 26th week of pregnanacy. I was scared at first but i left it in God's hands when it came to the results. The results were satisfying. My baby didn't have down syndrome. I'm 28 yrs old. Pregnant w/ my first child.
References :
I'm 23 years old, and I did the test. It's just a blood test, several tubes of blood are taken though. I think it's a good idea to test for it just so you have a heads up as to if there's a possibility of something like this being present in the baby. That way you aren't totally blind-sided by it later if the child turns out to have any problems. My tests came back negative, which was a load off my mind.
References :
At first when the doctor told me about the test I scheduled to get it done but then i changed my mind also lol. The false positives on this test are really high and also to me it was a waste of time because it didn't matter to me one way or the other he would still be my son :) and why put all that stress on yourself worrying if you get one of those false positives. It doesn't change anything either way.
References :
It's a personal choice. I opted out of the genetic testing.

First of all there is a chance for a false negative/positive. Second, depending on the method you chose, (blood tests excluded) can cause a miscarriage. Anytime they take a sample of amniotic fluid it carries a risk factor. Thirdly, what would you do if it came back positive anyways? It would just be another thing for you to be worried about all throught your pregnancy.

Of course it's your choice. Talk it over with your doctor, and make sure your doctor really listens to you and is not trying to force you into anything you don't want to do.

I've taken care of many people with down syndrome and I love each and everyone one of them, so if you do happen to get the testing and get a positive, it isn't the end of the world. There are many worse things in this world than having the eyes of a child for the rest of your life.
References :
I did the first trimester screen, it's just a blood test and ultrasound exam of baby's neck. There isn't any risk to the baby or mother with this test as far as I know.

If you would rather not know, and wouldn't mind being "suprised" with a defect at birth I'd say forgo the test if you don't wanna do it.

Good luck to you and your baby!
References :
25 weeks

It is different with every women, Im 4 weeks pregnant and have no symptoms. I only took a test because we were trying for a baby.
With my 2nd baby, i had sore boobs and felt sick right from the beginning.
Symptoms could include: feeling tired, sore back/boobs, change in appetite, mood swings.
I would wait till your period is due and take a test
References :
Im 24 and i just had it done... i didn't think about the result.. just that it was another test i had to have done. If their was going to be bad news i would have crossed that bridge when i found out... thankfully i didn't get bad news but i wanted to have the test to be sure... planning for a baby with an abnormality is a little more challenging than a healthy baby and i would definitely want to be prepared for that.

I dont know how to help you make a decision on that but just wanted to let you know thats what was going through my mind at the time.... =]

Good luck!!
References :
15w3d withh baby number 2!! =]

The first sign I had was constipation about a week after conception. However, it was during the holidays and my diet was way off, so I didn't think anything of it. Nothing else changed for me until a month later . . . when breasts started to swell and get sensitive and I started to get extremely tired every day . . . and the constipation continued. I had been trying to get pregnant for awhile and didn't think I had because I couldn't really feel anything different, and I even started to get cramps right before when my period would have usually came . . . but I few days later a pregnancy test confirmed it. I really don't think most women know by their signs until they take a prego test.
References :
When my doctor asked me if I wanted the test he said " Basically if your child had down syndrome would you abort it?" I said no and he told me not to do it then.

The test is done early here.

My friend had it done and she was told her daughter had down syndrome, so my friend worried her entire pregnancy and when her daughter was born she didn't have it at all.

Good Luck!
